Handle of God
Print (image 10" x 15")
Some ideas come to the mind fully formed. This was one. It seemed right to have a little boat - that of Saint Brendan, perhaps - going over the edge in a physical sense if one is living in the Fourth Century, and in a psychological sense if one is living in the Twentyfirst Century. Or maybe it should be vice versa. The interlace, a symbol of spiritual journey, has a shovel handle because one can keep a firm grip with that kind of handle regardless of how the tool turns. The Greek letters Alpha and Omega show who has control, and who will have control even when we get strung out and feel like we are going "over the edge". Artist's note: The painting that his print was made from and "Harvest Moon" came out of the healing that I went through after the loss of my 20 year old daughter in 1991. It takes a while, but healing can happen. I regard both paintings as very positive and full of hope. At shows, I've had people looking at the pictures begin to cry and say "I didn't know that anyone understood." Well, I don't know that I understand, but I think that the Holy Spirit does. It is really fulfilling for me to be part of that process. Blessings, Sam

Sherridan Smith - fine collectibles offers Christian jewelry and art with an historic touch. Celtic crosses based on the actual stone Celtic crosses from Ireland, Scotland, Isle of Man, Wales and Cornwall. The "Plus" are items that are original designs or are from other parts of the world, but have influenced Celtic Christianity. It is interesting to me that through out the centuries, Christians have taken the cross - usually a symbol of torture and death - and made beautiful jewelry, displays, paintings, and sculpture. This works because the cross is a symbol of VICTORY for us.
