Presbyterian Cross
The Seal of the Presbyterian Church (USA)
7/8" x 11/16" - 22 x 17 mm
Embodied within this design are the cross, the dove, scripture, and flames.
The cross is the main element and is composed of the dove (symbol of the Holy Spirit) descending to the Bible (scripture) which is on the pulpit or lectern. Inside of the pulpit is a form suggestive of a baptismal font or chalice cup. On each side of the pulpit are flames that suggest the beginning of the Christian church at Pentecost and Moses encounter with the burning bush. Also, these help to suggest a triangle at the bottom, symbolic of the Trinity and the nature of the Presbyterian government. This image is a registered trademark of the Presbyterian Church (USA). For a more complete explanation of the symbolism, you can find it at the web site of The Office of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA).
This cross makes a nice confirmation gift for anyone in the PCUSA.
