Pause
Print image -12" x 18" - unframed
The title of the painting, "Pause", was taken from the Coca-Cola™ sign. The subtitle is Matthew 6:19-20 -- "Lay not up for yourself treasures on earth where moth and rust doth corrupt and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourself treasures in heaven where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt and where thieves do not break in and steal." The walls are falling apart, the doors are broken -- but the padlock on the doors is still closed and locked tight. It is truly time to "Pause" and think what is really important in life. How deep is the futility of material security? Where are our priorities? What is really important to us?
The building is located in Chappell Hill, Texas, but it has been "modernized" and is not recognizable as the same building. I was fortunate to catch it at a time it still showed the signs of the wear and tear of early 20th Century life.
The original painting is owned by an actress friend, Maree Cheatham.
The Coca-Cola Bottling Company™ has given me permission to use their logo in the advertising and production of a print edition of 300 of the painting.
